Midland Classic Mercedes – Highly Recommended
It’s not often in this day and age that one is moved to remark on exceptional customer service but in this case I feel obliged to report on my recent enjoyable and positive experience with Midland Classic Mercedes so that others might benefit from my discovery.
A villa holiday in Italy with four families of friends led to us old chaps talking cars while the wives shopped and the teenagers frolicked in the pool – subtle mating ritual stuff naturally – best avoided.
Left to our own devices and armed with classic car magazines and a decent Borolo we debated the merits of the various Marques – Jags, Porsche and of course Mercedes. Two weeks of this unremitting toil under a cruel Umbrian sun led to an awakening in me of a long-repressed desire to have and to hold a Mercedes SL R107.
On returning home I hit the web, did some research and then set about locating a good example. I trawled the internet happily for a couple of weeks before I found exactly what I wanted - a fine low-mileage 1986 300SL in a gorgeous diamond blue. As luck would have it, the car was only 20 minutes down the road offered for sale by Midland Classic Mercedes. As you can imagine it was very much as case of – whoosh I’m there!
In Sam, the owner, and Tim his father, I found a pair of true enthusiasts leading a team steeped in a deep understanding of the history and glorious idiosyncrasies of the marquee and model – the SL being their specialism in fact. Their advice and insights proved valuable. This made the experience of buying the car a real pleasure. The vehicle’s pre-deliver preparation was meticulous and the after–sales support has been of the highest order – nothing has been too much trouble.
The R107 bug hit harder than I at first imagined and I soon found myself drawn to a second vehicle – another 300SL - this time a 1983 model in splendid signal red – a good price but of a higher mileage and somewhat less well prepared from another seller. I arranged for Sam and Tim to give it the once over and sort out the inevitable bits and pieces that result from the passage of time. I was delighted they used their knowledge, initiative and attention to detail to deliver me a transformed car along with what was a very acceptable bill. Really excellent value!
They offer a rare combination of skills and support that removes any natural anxiety one might have when dealing with modern classic cars – I commend this firm to anyone who already owns or is even just considering acquiring one of these beautiful vehicles.
It is just as well the cars are such a joy to spend time with as I have recently been informed by the Financial Controller that the merest suggestion of a third R107 will result in me sleeping in one of them!
